Balta Waregem, Europe’s largest machine-woven carpet producer, has taken a big step toward sustainability by adopting our M-Ray technology from Hammer-IMS. This new system allows for precise thickness control in their 100% recyclable polypropylene carpets, replacing the older nuclear-based measurements with a safer, eco-friendly alternative.
Balta is committed to sustainable production. With branches in Belgium, Turkey, and the United States, Balta focuses on carpets that are 100% recyclable, using only polypropylene.
“We’ve developed a unique, local process to produce these recyclable carpets,” says Rik Pappijn, Plant Manager at Balta Waregem. “This involves a method where we extrude a film, and it’s crucial to keep the thickness consistent.”
Previously, Balta used a nuclear-based tool to measure thickness. Now, thanks to Hammer-IMS, they’ve upgraded three production lines to millimeter-wave technology, providing precise measurements without nuclear sources. This switch supports Balta's goals of safety, accuracy, and environmental responsibility.
