Moisture measurement

The importance of moisture measurement

Moisture measurement is critical in various industries to ensure product quality and durability. Excessive moisture content can lead to issues such as material weakening, mold formation, and reduced performance. Therefore, accurate moisture monitoring is essential for materials like wood, building materials, and plastics.

How does M-Ray technology measure moisture?

The concept behind the technology for the measurement of  moisture and water-based coatings consists is simple. A sensor at the top transmits an electromagnetic millimeter wave that passes through the material being measured (1), then reverses direction when hitting the reflector underneath (2), passing through the material once again, and finally being captured by another sensor head at the bottom. (3) The measurement system tracks the time required by the wave to pass through the material. The lower the power reported by the bottom receiver, the higher the moisture content or yield of the applied water-based coating.
